Pankaj Oudhia

Due to regular writing on different aspects of medicinal herbs, insects, mites, mushrooms, herbal products etc. I receive thousands of emails, letters and phone calls every week. From farmers, researchers to herb traders and drug manufactures approach to me with different queries. It is not possible to give reply to all queries. I prefer queries having complete address and clear description of purpose. In trade related queries in general buyers write that they want to buy herbs in bulk but request for samples at first. They consider me herb supplier. Earlier I was giving replies to such mails that I am researcher not a supplier but due to bulk mails now I ignore such mails. Traders approaching after reading my profile with ground level realities are replied at first. Many traders’ especially Indian traders show no interest to pay me the consultation charges. They simply say to collect the commission from suppliers. I know it is way of business and it suits to many but it is not possible for me. I prefer to make yearly contract to forward all queries I am receiving on different herbs and herbal products. After this legal contract, I ignore the transactions going on among buyers and suppliers. As you know these days, I am preparing scientific report on Type II Diabetes. This report demands 10-14 hours of writing daily without any break. Due to this work I prefer said legal contract for forwarding the queries.

Many plant lovers ask for few seeds. Few mean 5 to 7 seeds. In general seed suppliers don’t agree to supply seeds in this minimal quantity. Similarly researchers demand for single plant or plant parts for their research. They generously mention that my name will be acknowledged in the report and many times they offer to pay the cost of plant parts and posting charges. But to go to forest for single plant is very expensive task. I feel research organizations must make some arrangements for honorarium and other expenses when they suggest their researchers to contact experts like me.

Thousands of mails per week are of much value. When I analyze these mails I get lots of information from market trend to R&D work in progress around the world. Earlier I tried to present the information in form of Interactive Tables, now through this article I am presenting top 20 queries about herbs and other related products I received from Jan 01, 2008 to August, 2008.
