Abstract
Herbal Tea is popular
throughout world. In Indian state Chhattisgarh
information on over 5,000 types of Herbal Tea is
available. These Herbal Teas are used in treatment
of common as well as complicated diseases. The
traditional medicinal knowledge about these Herbal
Teas is still undocumented. The present series is
an effort to document this valuable traditional
medicinal knowledge.
Traditional
Healing
People living with
modern life style always search herb-based
medicine that can give energy to them. They are
aware of harms of modern medicines having side
effects. They know many herbal formulations but
they afraid off its addiction. Today in markets
there are many types of Herbal Tea are available
with claims that its use gives extra energy. But
most of the claims are false. For such people the
Traditional Healers of Chhattisgarh are having new
Herbal Tea having many health benefits. Since time
immemorial this Herbal Tea is in use in different
parts of Chhattisgarh. Before going for hunting
tribal take this tea in order to remain active
during whole operation. The drum players take sip
of this Tea during playing in order to regain
strength. Like other Herbal Tea this Tea is not
much popular among the natives of urban regions
but the natives of rural and forest regions still
use it their day today life. This Herbal Tea is
prepared from Ama Patta i.e. leaves of Mango. I
have mentioned in previous research articles that
the natives as well as Healers prefer indigenous
Ama varieties for preparing medicine. For Ama
Patta Ke Chai they collect the leaves of
indigenous Ama.
From the Traditional
Healers of Chhattisgarh Plains I got detailed
information on this special Tea. Old trees are
preferred for the collection of leaves. Only old
yellow leaves are used. They prefer the use of
fresh leaves but for off-season dry leaves are
used in powder form. Herbal Tea is prepared by
traditional methods. Leaves are boiled in water
and decoction is prepared. In this decoction cow
milk is added. For taste Ginger and sugar are
added. Tea is served hot. The Healers suggest its
use round the year. The patients having blood
related disorders are specially advised to take
this Herbal Tea as supplementary medicine. In
different parts of Chhattisgarh natives prepare it
by adopting different methods. Many natives add
Gud in place of sugar. In general Gud is
considered superior as compared to sugar in any
food preparation. The natives of different regions
consume this tea in different amounts. One normal
cup is considered enough for one time use of Tea
but you will be surprised to know that many
natives take half liters of tea. The Traditional
Healers are not happy with such natives. They are
aware that overdose may result in harmful
effects.
I
have taken this Tea many times and experienced its
miraculous effects. During forest visit this
simple use helps us in great way. This Tea is
recommended to the natives of all age group. The
healers consider it good for normal health. The
Healers recommending it to the AIDS patients add
more herbs in it in order to enrich with medicinal
properties. Herbal Tea having many herbs is then
not considered as Tea. They consider it as
decoction and generally cow milk and sugar are not
added.
Although this simple
Tea is considered as Poor man’s Herbal Tea but
after experiencing its miraculous effects I feel
that this Tea needs promotion especially among the
natives living with modern life style. World
literatures on Herbal Tea mention very little
about this Tea. This little information motivated
me to include this special Tea in present
series.

In
Abstract of this document you have read that over
5,000 Herbal Teas are in use in Indian state
Chhattisgarh. Now this number is plus 20,000. I
got interesting information on this aspect through
recent surveys. I collected new information on Ama
Patta ke Chai and added special chapters on it in
Type II Diabetes and Cancer reports. The
Traditional Healers add hundreds of herbs in
different combinations to make this Herbal Tea
more useful.
The details
with pictures and film strips have been added in
