Abstract
The
present series is an effort to present the
author’s view and experience on possible use of
medicinal herbs and combinations in treatment of
Parkinson’s disease.
Traditional
Healing
Although Anar is known
for its tasty fruits around the world and the
scientific literatures related to different
systems of medicine write much about the medicinal
properties of fruits but I have experienced the
miraculous effects of its other parts specially
leaves. In Chhattisgarh Anar is planted in home
garden for its tasty medicinal fruits. The natives
raise it organically. On the bases of shape of
Anar fruits we can divide it in two categories.
Large fruits with much juice content are from Anar
plants raised through modern agricultural
practices. The emphasis of growers is on good
production. The Traditional Healers don’t consider
this Anar rich in medicinal properties. Anar
having small sized fruits growing with low input
of organic manures, having different types of
stresses during life cycle are considered rich in
medicinal properties. This type of Anar can be
obtained only through home garden. Not only the
fruits but also all parts of Anar get rich in
medicinal properties under such conditions. I have
seen the miraculous effects of leaves collected
from such plants in case of Parkinson’s
disease.
In
Ayurveda there is a formulation in which Anar
leaves are mixed with equal proportion of Rose
petals and the combination is boiled in water.
Decoction is prepared and after adding sufficient
amount of cow ghee given to the patients. This
combination is recommended for the patients having
Epilepsy. In field it works in promising ways. I
have found this combination useful for the
patients having Parkinson’s disease. But for it
there is need to change the proportion. The use of
pure Anar leaf juice also gives relief to such
patients. Among Anar, Rose and Ghee I have found
Anar leaves most promising in treatment of this
disease. Hence the proportion of Anar leaves must
be kept in higher side. Cow Ghee is considered as
good brain tonic. Instead of adding it in
decoction if it is used separately in sufficient
amount along with internal use of Anar and Rose
based decoction, then it will give more promising
results. I feel that Anar and Rose petal mixed in
10:1 ratio is best combination. The use of petals
collected from indigenous Rose must be preferred
in order to get more promising results.
The
best time of its use is winter. It must be taken
under supervision of herb experts aware of this
combination. Every time fresh decoction must be
prepared and consumed. It should not be kept for
long time. New Anar leaves give less benefit than
young leaves. One cup of decoction once in a day
is recommended dose.
Is
it cures the Parkinson’s disease? May be but I
have not seen any patient getting complete cure
from it. When I recommend it to certain patients
they informed that they are getting relief from
this trouble. Many of them are using it still with
modern medicines. Although I am not in favor of
this type of use but such observations give new
clues. I feel that it must be very useful in long
term. Modern research on this decoction can
through more light on it. The Traditional Healers
of Chhattisgarh are aware of this combination as
remedy for Epilepsy. They failed to give any
comment on its use in treatment of Parkinson’s
disease but informed that this combination is free
from side effects. This is good information.
Keep visiting and
reading this page as I will add new information
time to time as I get new responses from the
patients.

I
informed about this decoction to the Traditional
Healers. Many of them tried and suggested
modifications. They claimed that by making
suggested modifications we can provide great
relief to patients. I have documented information
about these modifications in CGBD database.
Their trials are still
in progress.
